Materials:
plastic artist palette
#5 round paintbrush
Marvy brush markers
matte-coated card stock or watercolor paper
Stampassions rubber stamps
Stampassions black watercolor stamp pad
water container
paper towels
Steps:
- Stamp impression on card stock using black watercolor stamp pad. This technique does not work well with highly coated paper, nor does it work well with very porous, recycled paper.
- Use brush markers to scribble a circle of color into wells of plastic palette.
- Dip the brush into water, then into a desired color. The brush should be quite wet before picking up the color in order to create a light wash to apply to the stamp. Working with one section of the stamp impression at a time, apply a light wash to each section.
- To add detail to the stamp impression, pick up water on the brush. Remove excess water by pressing the brush against a paper towel. Dip just the tip of the brush into desired color. Outline the perimeter of each section, holding the point of the brush away from you at a 20- to 30-degree angle, using only the flat side of the brush. This technique produces a beautiful effect where the color gradually blends out and gets lighter. As the paint on the brush runs out, dip the brush in water, blot and reload color.
