If the idea of making silk painted cards appeals but the idea of carefully applying all of the Gutta resist does not there are now stamped pieces of silk that have already had the resist applied. Card designs are available in kit form with four designs, four cards and four envelopes included.
Materials:
Gutta resist card kits
Steps:
- Stretch the silk onto a frame as described. The designs are all printed on one piece of silk so you can stretch the entire piece on one large frame or cut the designs apart and stretch them separately. In either case the foam board was used for the stretcher. You can use a picture frame if one is available in the correct size.
- Color in the design and background using either the watercolor markers or silk paint pens.
- Remove silk from stretchers. Cut silk along the designated borders and mount in the supplied cards or cut out the pictures inside the borders and mount using spray adhesive to cards of your choice.
Note: In addition to the cards, scarves and pillow covers and various other items are also available in the Gutta collection where the resist has already been applied. Also, there are silk painting kits available for youngsters that come with the designs printed on silk that has already been permanently attached to round wire frames. The brush and silk paint is also included.
For those who intend to continue with silk painting on a larger scale a lightweight and very versatile stretching easel is available that can be easily adapted to hold small or very large pieces of silk.
