Project designed by Chris Gluck.
Materials:
Wire Art Inc 24-gauge poly-coated wire
ColourCraft 20-, 26-, and 28-gauge enamel coated wire, round nose, chain nose and nylon jaw pliers
Darice: The Coiling Gizmo, Thing-ama-jig
The Wire Wizard
assorted tools for wrapping: 1/8-inch dowel, craft stick, toothpick, nails, pencil, fork, knitting needles, small wood scrap
hammer or mallet
assorted beads
scissors, nail clippers, wire cutters
Tips:
- Wrap pliers with masking tape to avoid damaging wire.
- Twist two colors evenly together by attaching wires to a door handle or sturdy chair. Attach the other ends to a pencil then twist the desired amount.
- To make braids or to macrame wire, use another wire to hook the pieces to a sturdy table or chair.
- To strengthen, flatten or give texture to wire using a hammer or mallet on a firm surface such as metal or concrete.
- Make coils using common household items such as pencils, nails and knitting needles.
- Make a fascinating spiral-shaped coil using a craft stick. Wrap the wire closely and evenly on the stick. Press coils together firmly around the stick. Remove wire from stick, giving it an extra twist to add more spirals.
- Wrap a wire in and out of fork tines to create an easy "figure 8" repeated design.
