Craft resources that I refer to as WOW! products are featured here. There are several sets of punches from Family Treasures, Inc., such as a Power Punch from Tapestry In Time for making your punching easier on the hands, and from SAR (Some Assembly Required), are sets of stamps for making beautifully-engineered paper ornaments and decorations.

On the show, these punch sets were each presented in a beautiful glass-topped wooden box that held a complete set of one particular style of punch in a wide range of sizes. The circle punches ranged from the very smallest dot possible to one over 1-1/2" in diameter. A similar set featured square punches, and another was devoted to swirl punches. All went from very small to very large. There were alphabet punches (figure A) in both lowercase and uppercase letters and several sets that included border stamps. Prices for the complete boxed sets ranged from $112 to $152. Because of the number of requests the company has received for the boxes alone, boxes can be purchased for a little more than $30. It was quite grand. Everything looked so elegant that a number of the show staff wanted to own them--even if they weren't crafters!

The Power Punch, at $79, had originally seemed to me like a rather extravagant item, considering that it is used exclusively for punching. However, after seeing how popular decorating with punched shapes has become, and how some of the show guests have elevated their compositions to practically an art form, it now seems almost a necessity rather than an extravagance. Punching card stock, which is so often used in making decorations and compositions, can take a surprising amount of strength when using some of the more detailed punches. The Power Punch makes it a simple operation. The Power Punch also makes it possible to get more variety from punches because it allows exact placement of the punch on the paper (figure B). Perfectly aligned borders are easy to accomplish. A smaller version is also available for $59. Templates to fit 12 different punch sizes and shapes come with the punch. Others can be purchased separately.

Most unusual were the items from SAR. There is, in fact, quite a bit of assembly required with these beautifully engineered ornaments and decorations. Fortunately, the clearly written and illustrated directions make them quite easy to assemble, once you get the hang of it. Some of the shapes are available already cut out and all you have to do is to assemble them, but the true crafter will no doubt want to purchase one or more of the rubber stamp sets so she can stamp, cut and construct her own. Among the sets available are those for making a small Christmas tree, an egg that opens up (figure C) and a tiny heart to wear as a necklace. Other sets will continue to become available. All of the completed items are three-dimensional and are very dramatic in appearance. At this time, the stamp sets available range in price from $13 for stamps to make a set of tiny Christmas tree earrings, to the large egg set that sells for $49.50.
