Deborah Durham from Hewlett-Packard shows how to use a computer and printer to work beautiful outdoor scenes into your interior decor.

Decorating Fabric

Materials:

scanner
rose petals
computer
iron-on tissue transfer paper
color jet printer
light-colored fabric
iron

Steps:

  1. Place rose petals directly onto the scanner (figure A).

  2. Place iron-on tissue transfer paper in the printer-receiving tray.

  3. Print out the rose-petal images through the printer onto the transfer paper (figure B). Be sure to print out the pictures in the desired sizes.

  4. Cut out the individual pieces.

  5. Place the transfer paper face down onto the fabric.

  6. Rub a very hot iron over the paper for approximately one minute.

  7. Allow paper to cool for a few minutes before peeling off the transfer paper.

  8. Continue process until fabric design is complete.

Decorating a Shelf

Materials:

seed packets
scanner
computer
printer
sticker printer paper (usually comes with nine square or round stickers on one page)
scissors
desired furniture piece

Steps:

  1. Place seed packets onto the scanner.

  2. Print images out onto sticker printer paper.

  3. Peel and stick onto desired piece of furniture. A good example is a shelf.

  4. Cut out unusual shapes from the stickers if desired.

* Note: Be sure to cut very close to the edge of the sticker.

Faux Stone Wall

Materials:

digital camera
computer
plain banner paper
glue spray
plain adhesive paper, banner size

Steps:

  1. Take a photo of an object or scene with a digital camera.

  2. Remove disk from digital camera and insert into the computer.

  3. Download picture into computer.
  4. Print picture out onto plain banner paper (figure C).

  5. Spray-glue the banner to the front side of adhesive paper.

  6. Peel and stick to the wall.

Tips

  • Use light-colored fabric to allow the colors and design to stand out.

  • If a scanner is not accessible, take photos to local developer and have them put onto a disk. Another option would be to use clip art. There are many programs that include clip art that can be downloaded into the computer and printed onto the transfer paper.

  • Any object can be used. Good examples are seed packets, flower petals and books.
