Materials:

Caron Dawn Sayelle #3075 (3 oz. skein) (100% Monsanto Acrylic Fiber)
3 (4-4) skeins #406 Christmas Red
1 skein #318 Royal
1 skein #410 Christmas Green
1 skein #331 Lemon
1 skein #371 Black
1 skein #301 White
crochet hook, size H and I, or size required to crochet to gauge
two blue buttons, 3/4" in diameter

Size: Directions are given for size 2. Changes for sizes 4 and 6 are given in parentheses. Finished garment width around underarms, 26-inches (28 to 31-inches).

Gauge: 7 sc = 2-inch (size I hook)

Notes: When working chart, wind several small balls of each yarn color and use a separate ball for each section of color. Do not carry unused colors across; rather, drop unused color to wrong side of work and pick up when again needed on return row. When changing colors, always bring up new color as last yo of old color and bring up new color from under dropped color to prevent holes. On chart, work right side rows from right to left; wrong side rows from left to right.

Back:
Ribbing: With H hook and Christmas Red, ch 47 (51-55).

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across-46 (50-54) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Sl st in first dc, ch 2 for first hdc, * yo and insert hook from front to back to front around post of next dc directly below, complete as dc (front post dc completed), yo and insert hook from back to front to back around post of next dc, complete as dc (back post dc completed); repeat from * to last st, hdc in last st. Turn.

Row 3: Sl st in first hdc, ch 2 for first hdc, * front post dc around first post dc, back post dc around next post dc; repeat from * across, end hdc in last st. Turn.

Repeat Row 3 0 (2-2) times more. At end of last row, do not cut yarn; turn to work across long edge of ribbing.

Sweater Body:
Row 1 (Right Side): Change to I hook. Ch 1, sc in each st across-46 (50-54) sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat Row 2 until 8-inches (9 to 10-inches) from beg, or desired length to underarm. Place a marker on each side for underarm. Continue repeating Row 2 as established until 4-inches (5 to 5-inches) above armhole marker. At end of last row, do not ch 1. Turn.

Next Row: Sl st in first sc, ch 3 for first dc, dc in each sc across. Turn.

Next Row: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 of Ribbing until 5-inches (6 to 7-inches) above underarm marker. Fasten off.

Front:
Work same as Back until 3 (4-5) from beg, end on right side.

Next Row (Wrong Side): Sc in 4 (6-8) sc, place marker, sc in 38 sc, place marker, sc in remaining 4 (6-8) sc-Row 1 of Chart completed. Ch 1, turn. (Note: Marked 38 sts at center indicate placement of chart; carry markers up.)

Next Row (Right Side): Continuing in Christmas Red, sc in each sc to marker, sc in 7 sc after marker, with Red draw up a loop in next st, with Black work yo and through both loops on hook (color change completed), with Black sc in 3 sc, draw up a loop in next st, join another ball of Red and work yo and through both loops on hook (another color change completed), with Red sc in 10 sc and change to Black on yo of last st, with Black sc in 2 sc and change to Red on last st, with Red sc in 5 sc and change to Black on last yo, with Black work 2 sc and change to Red, with Red sc across-Row 2 of Chart completed. Continue working chart as established, keeping sts outside markers in Red and following Chart for sts between markers; work to top of chart. At the same time, when same length as Back to underarm marker, place marker each side on Front. When chart is finished, complete remainder of Front same as Back.

Sleeves:
With H hook and Christmas Red, ch 27 (29-31).

Ribbing: Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across-26 (28 to 30) dc counting starting ch. Turn. Work in ribbing same as Back until 1-inch (1 to 2-inches) from beg. At end of last row, ch 1 and turn to work across long edge of ribbing.

Row 1: Change to I hook. Sc in each st across-26 (28 to 30) sc. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Work 2 sc in first sc (1 sc inc at beg of row), sc across, 2 sc in last sc (1 sc inc at end of row)-28 (30 to 32) sc. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until there are 32 (38-46) sts. Then, inc 1 st each edge every 4th row until there are 38 (46-52) sts. Work even in sc until 9-inches (10 to 12-inches) from beg, or desired length of sleeve. Fasten off.

Finishing:
On front and back, at top edge mark center 6-inches ( 7 to 8-inches) for neck. Leaving neck area open, sew left shoulder seam. Sew right shoulder seam, from arm edge toward neck, for 1-inch. Sew sleeves in place from marker to marker. Sew underarm and side seams.

Button Loops: On Front side, at open right shoulder, join Red 1-inch over from seam. Ch 5, skip 1 st, sl st in next 3 sts, ch 5, skip 1 st, sl st in 3 sts. Fasten off. Sew buttons opposite Button Loops.
