Folded Football Scrapbook Page

Yea team! Commemorate special sports memories with this fun peek-a-boo football design that's easy to make. This fold-and-cut technique also works with other symmetrically-shaped objects. Try using the idea to fashion a soccer ball, ballet slipper, fish or even a hand mirror. Just practice first on scrap paper.

The background of this page was made by cutting and pasting strips of "grass"-printed paper onto the page to form a gridiron of sorts.

Steps:

1. Fold a football-colored square of paper in half (figure A).

2. Unfold the paper, leaving a center fold crease (figure B).

3. Fold both sides of the paper in to the center fold line (figure C). Crease the new folds well.

4. Make a football-shaped pattern to match the size of the folded paper. Make it large enough so the sides of the football overhang a bit. Turn the folded paper over so the front "doors" are facedown. Position the football pattern on top of the paper with the sides of the football on the folds. Trace around the pattern, taking the pencil off the edge of the paper at the folded sides where the pattern overhangs slightly (figure D).

5. Holding the paper with folds intact, cut out the traced football design without cutting away the folds at the side of the football. Turn the football over so the doors are in front. Cut two parentheses-shaped curves from white paper to mount at each end of the football. Cut "strings" of the ball from white paper, too. Mount these on the football, adhering the pieces to both sides of the doors. Cut the white pieces down the center of the football following the door opening (figure E).

7. Unfold the doors of the football to mount photos inside (figure G).
8. If desired, mount pictures outside the football as well (figure H).
