Wilhelmina S. Banks of Bristol, Va., sent in a box of very handsome and most unusual handmade note cards (figure A) that were all different yet all obviously related. They featured silhouettes of women’s faces (there were a few men in there) wearing head wraps of beautifully colored fabric. Wilhelmina draws the silhouettes then has them printed on the cards. She then personally adds the authentic African fabric head dresses, called geles, by hand. Wilhemina also teaches classes in how to use different fabrics and different wrap styles for different occasions. Very interesting.

Going from the sublime to the really cute and funny we then shared a letter and a photo sent in by Kathy Haid of Aurora, IL. The picture was a photograph of her first and brand new grandson—and the reason for showing it was the fact that the little boy who actually lives in Arizona with his parents—had not one but two (!) sock monkeys snuggled up next to him, both made by Kathy’s sister. The little boy was also wearing overalls that had a sock monkey stitched on the front. Kathy wrote that she had been a Sock Monkey fan since childhood and it looks like her new grandson in going to be involved with them whether he wants to be or not!
