Project by Michele Gerbrandt.

Materials:

photos
2 sheets 8-1/2" x 11" white card stock
2 sheets 8-1/2" x 11" black card stock
shape templates
pastel card stock for matting photos
sheet white mulberry paper
sheet black mulberry paper
sheet scrap paper (i.e. white copy paper)
1" circle punch
1-1/4" circle punch
Colorbok letter stickers for titles
black and white Mrs. Grossman’s Borderline stickers
acid-free adhesive
scissors or craft knife
metal ruler
cutting mat
black and opaque white journaling pens

Steps:

1. Using one sheet of the black and white card stock, place them side-by-side with the black page on the left. With the second sheets of black and white card stock, cut a strip 1-1/2" x 8-1/2" and mount the white strip on the top of the black page and the black strip on top of the white page.

2. Cut 3 x 4" rectangles from remaining white and black card stock. Mount black rectangle vertically on white page and mount white rectangle vertically on black page. These are your journaling blocks (figure A).

3. Trace and cut out shape templates in desired shapes--one each in black and white. Lay white and black shape over each other and mark where alternating color will fall on page (figure B).

4. Cut the shapes along the mark and place alternating color on the black or white page (figure C).

5. Punch six 1-inch circles for black mulberry with scrap paper. Repeat with white mulberry. Place alternating colored circles on black or white pages. For circles intersecting journaling block or photos, slice circles and match alternating color with them before adhering to page.

6. Punch five to six 1-1/4-inch circles with black mulberry and scrap paper. Repeat this step with white mulberry paper. Adhere the mulberry circles to their opposing color strips across the top. This is the background for your title letters.

7. Place the letter stickers for your title on the pastel colored card stock and carefully cut out the letters, leaving about a 1/16-inch border around the letters. Adhere the cutout letters to the circles on the title strips.

8. Crop and mat photos with pastel card stock, leaving a 1/8-inch border around the photos. Adhere matted photos to your pages overlapping journaling space.

9. Add white border stickers to side and bottom of black page and repeat with black border stickers on white page. Using a white pen, journal in the black rectangle, and repeat with black pen in white rectangle.
