Shoebox: Sparkly Eggs, Bean Angels

Maryanne Drinnon of Rogersville, Tenn., sent us a batch of sparkly eggs that we all thought were very pretty, but I must admit that if she had just told us about them, I wouldn't have believed it for a minute. What Maryanne did was use a hot glue gun to glue faceted beads from the craft store to colored plastic eggs. She first glued the two sections of the eggs together, then completely covered each egg with the beads; the end result was surprisingly attractive. Maryanne said she puts the eggs in a cut glass bowl and when placed where the sun can shine on them, they are beautiful. I believe it because even in a non-cut glass bowl and with no sunshine to shine on them, they were pretty. Maryanne also said to be generous with the glue.
Karon Newl of Warner Robins, Ga., also sent in a most unusual project that she said came to her in a dream one night. When she woke up in the morning, she went to work to make the creations she had dreamed about! Karon calls her little creations her bean angels, because they are little winged figures with heads and bodies consisting entirely of beans...lima beans, navy beans, kidney beans, etc. She has them each placed on a heavy stone in various poses, and it appears that they were all coated with a generous amount of polyurethane. Very interesting.
